I reckon they were B.S.A. bicycles made in Birmingham, which were a very popular make at that time. Of course it is possible that they are not any recognised 'brand' at all, it was not uncommon for local craftsmen to put together bicycles using an ad-hoc collection of proprietary parts.
Following the 2-wheel connection, Rawdon Smith, the brother of Georgina and Pauline Smith (A.R.'s inspiration for the Amazons), had a motorcycle but it was too long ago for Pauline to remember the make when I asked her.
