Yes, I can just about understand all that. Shall I explain it? De-scaling/de-furring, for instance, is what you do to a domestic kettle in hard water areas.

If you look at steam plant you can usually see what is supposed to happen. I could even make a stab at driving the thing - certainly I can drive a steam launch. But if a computer suddenly stops delivering all I (at any rate) can do is switch off and hope it works ten minutes later.
