I've not been to Spitzbergen but I suspect that you'd have to look south to see the northern lights from there. My undestanding is that the primary lattitude is around 65 degrees north. The Japanese pay big money to fly over to Yellowknife, North West Territories, Canada to see and conceive their babies in the glow of the light shows there.
