I suggest that if the Swallows had met the Amazons and camped together on Wild Cat Island earlier in SA, we could not have had the struggle between the Swallows and Amazons to capture each other’s boat with John becoming the Admiral (or was it Commodore?). And consequently the episodes of the lighthouse, the night sailing, Titty left on the island, the houseboat break-in, Captain Flint thinking the Swallows had let off the firework, the visit from the policeman, and the finding of Captain Flint’s trunk.

Just as the fairly unlikely event of Daddy seeing John on the Goblin (WD) led to him sailing back on the Goblin with them. Any other ending of the story would have been much less satisfactory! So we accept some unlikely events for the sake of the plot ie various episodes in the story in SA and the ending in WD.
