Meta fuel is also used to power toy/model steam engines. One German manufacturer, Wilesco, supplies Meta as it's standard fuel. I don't know what they do about their exports to the US.
Primus stoves can also be started with a gas blowlamp - if you have one handy. I discovered this when I had run out of meths.
Meths in the UK has been degraded by the introduction of more paraffin and other contaminants to ensure that it burns with a visible flame and burns with more soot. This is to comply with another arcane EEC regulation that the French and others wisely ignore. If you want good meths you have to buy it on your booze cruise to France.
