AR might not have known when the Chain Home masts at Bawdsey were erected, since I think he had just moved to the area. On the other hand they must surely have been a talking point with local yachtsmen, as any newly erected seamark always is. "Homer nods" is the best explanation assuming that he was interested in a precise chronology.
