I'm surprised to see that the first Para Handy TV series was as long ago as 1959-60, when I was 10. I would have put it a few years later. I also saw some episodes of the more recent series mentioned by PhilW. If I remember correctly it was not brought into the present like the first series, but was done as a period piece.

The Para Handy stories originally appeared in a column in the Glasgow Evening News starting in 1905. They were later collected in books over the next 20 years. I have - buried somewhere - a paperback volume of some of the stories that was printed in the early 1960s following the success of the first TV series. For more information see this website:
