"It's been talked about here before"... boy, I am beginning to sound like an old-timer!

I think I raised the same issue about two years ago, and I agree a link to the book ought to be included on the literary page.

I have a special fondness for it, because I stumbled upon it in the Boston Public Library while doing research for an undergraduate paper, and it got me re-interested in books that I had only read as a kid. I started re-collecting the books... then planning trips to the Lake District, where I learned a rambler was... and now I'm posting rambling notes on TARboard!

Anyway, from my memory of more than 30 years ago, I would say that the book pioneered a number of common threads in Ransome lore... including some of the connections to real people and places, a brief outline of Ransome's personal history, and the effect these books had on the genre of children's literature at the time; but I don't recall anything in it that hasn't been greatly expanded upon since then.

I think it's the first place where I heard the story of a letter Ransome apparently received from a young fan, asking him to "write another book, just like the last one, with all the same characters doing all the same things..." Which is beginning to sound like this posting.
