I learnt the hard way that a bl**dy small boat gets out of the road of a bl**dy big boat. Just like John in WDMTGS. In my case it was 12 ft to 60 ft but the sides of a 60 ft boat appear high when they sweep across your stern. Only an idiot forces a rule if the differential is big and you are sailing in new areas.
