You indicated that there have been some changes in the "Give way rules" and I was wondering - could you be more explicit as to what of those old Ransome-defined rules are now changed?

The awkward part of these "rules of the road" is that in different parts of the world, different sets of rules are to be followed. The Intercoastal Waterway (Eastern USA southern coast line) has conventions that are different from the rules for mariners in the Great Lakes, and both differ from the rules to be followed in the open sea. And even there, there may be different from coastal waters (depending on the country whose coast is nearest) and the international waters of the open oceans. It gets complicated.

And now you say that the rules are different from what Ransome defined. Keeping up with rules and regulations can get complicated. Staying on top of all those changes is like skating on warm Jello.
