They don't run me down. It is essential when meeting such folk (or, for that matter, well meaning people who just can't control their boats) to ensure that their bows never point at you. If YOUR bows always point at THEM you retain the options of giving way with a cheery wave, keeping clear with a few well chosen words, or ramming the b...s.

The last does need to be done with care as the rules also state that a right of way boat should avoid a collision if possible.

A good exposition of the issues involved is in Nevil Shute's 'Stephen Morris', Part 2 (Pilotage), Chapter 4.

Incidentally, how does one put quotations at the head of an entry into italics>?
