In SW John's watch was "still in Ipswich being mended"

John's prized possession (in SA) was his barometer which he "had won as a prize at school and never went anywhere without it" This isn't mentioned in SW but the weather was clearly very steady so assuming that John had taken it it would have shown little change and there would have been no reason to comment on it. John certainly checked the barometer regularly - as in WD where he quickly notices that it has dropped suddenly while they were waiting in the fog.

In SA it simply comments that John's watch was "now a chronometer because John was master of a ship". He disappears to consult it so it could well have been a pocket watch, not a wrist watch - obvious really at that date but I have never noticed it before.

In SW, however, Nancy's watch is specifically a wrist watch.
