Has anyone read a book by E Arnot Robertson called 'Ordinary Families' (1933)?
It is about a family called Rush who live at Pin Mill and who are as thoroughly saily as the Walkers, but what a difference! The dashing and charismatic father is lampooned by an intellectual Pin Mill neighbour as 'God's Own Boy Scout Grown Up' and the narrator Lalage, the middle one of 3 daughters, secretly longs for a pantomime visit for her 11th birthday but is impelled to 'do the Rush thing' and ask for a sailing trip to Littlehampton. The rest of her family are genuinely boaty, though.
