Laurence's system is OK provided you are comfortable with the sheet leading to your hand from one quarter.
If not, a horse across the transom is indicated.
This need be no more than a length of bronze bar, bent into shape and the ends flattened. Classic Marine will run one up for you, to a more elegant spec., on request.
Personally, I like a horse.
