When they used to come around to sell encyclopedia, they had a fold out they always threw out on the floor to show you what they would look like on the shelf (impress your neighbors and relatives) - I always wanted one of those - just to nail to the wall to LOOK like I owned the set of impressive looking books. I now have two sets of encyclopedia - thrift store sets from the '40's and '50's. Am I stuck in the past or what! Just think of how much weight that would save in a boat - book back wallpaper, faux leather, even! Did the folks with the leather Reader's (pre)Digest(ed) books even READ them? (Doubtfull)

EA - Lucas, Kansas (which is not flat)

PS - I used to read the magazine, also, when I was young and brilliant -great for that place that Mr. Ransome NEVER mentioned; but never read the books.
