Sorry. Let us by all means Bowdlerise. But I believe that Miss Henrietta Bowdler has as much to answer for as her brother Thomas, who was, I fancy, a doctor rather than a man of the cloth. He is often described as a Victorian, but he died in 1825, having published his Family Shakespeare in 1818. So much for the louche, racy, Regency!
