Peter Duck was the first Ransome book I came across, in my school library at the age of about eight. I read with enjoyment and the fact that I had never met any pirates or sailed at that age didn't bother me. It was a ripping good yarn with adventure and a treasure of sorts and the pirates came to a bad end.

I didn't get my hands on any of the others for a year or more and I liked each of them in their own way. However, for some reason Coot Club and Missee Lee weren't available for quite some time and I was a lot older when I first read them (12 or 13 I think). When I did get to them, perhaps the magic was less but I have never taken to those books as I have the others.
