Actually, my question was not really whether there was a "to scale" representation, but merely whether AR's MAP agrees with AR's TEXT.

On the map, it looks like quite a distance from the islands outside Rio to the mouth of the Amazon; however, the text description of sailing implies that as soon as they're past the islands, they're almost immediately at the Amazon. I wondered whether this was a factor of how to sail, i.e., whether all the tacking necessary to pass the islands took as much time as one single, straight run before the wind across the lake to the Amazon?

Or is it just that the map should be taken as just a "sketch" or a suggestion?
