Peter, I'll admit privately [all other Tarboarders please close your eyes] that I can never get very passionate about the 'Is A really B?' type discussions, though I do enjoy picking my way through their logic. I'm much more interested in questions about what the books tells us about AR, and whether they are more than well crafted stories for children. Do they, perhaps reflect AR's philosophy of life?

You gave me much food for thought with your post that reading AR could be a 'bad' influence on adults. I think that you meant to say no more than that you had come across certain AR enthusiasts who, when provoked, exhibit childish behaviour. But, on considering the question further, I concluded that you were right in a wider sense. AR's characters exhibit 'out of box thinking' and challenge accepted wisdom. And that sadly, is often regarded as 'bad' by those in positions of authority.

I would say more, but I fear that if I did this thread would suffer a swift and messy end.
