AR could be a 'bad' influence on adults

I may have said the above (I haven't been back to check) but I think I would now recant slightly and water it down to saying 'We should not automatically assume that AR is always a good influence on adults'. What I am referring to is not so much 'childishness' (they're children's books, after all) but more a type of 'pernickety' behaviour, an insistence that everything to do with AR is like this and not like that. For these people, a group (whether a formalised 'society' or an informal group) dedicated to AR becomes the most important thing in their life - a totally distorted attitude. Jock put it very well in the quote which I reposted on a new thread a month or two ago.

(I agree with Jock's statement on 'challenging accepted wisdom' but I hardly think his thread will suffer a messy fate - Ian is surely the last person to worry about such a view. Or does Jock mean a messy end delivered by us gentle Tarboarders?)
