I would distinguish between faith and belief. You can have faith without believing all the details.
To qualify what Isaid, rationalists who care a great deal about ontology, what's in the world and so on, tend to make the mistake that religious people do to. In my experience for many modern Catholics, being a catholic is who you are and what you do and you try not to get involved in debates about teh exact relationship between God and the big bang. I don't know but I've been told that Judaism is reproduced because the family rituals of Jewish familes are made up of Jewish rituals.
As for Lewis Wolpert, well I prefer Lewis Carroll
