Nicholls,

Blast and Botheration. Matron has been watching too many American films. She misread my handwriting. Smith JUNIOR, should have been typed up as Smith MINOR. Note that with two Smiths we would have had Smith MINOR and MAJOR. Some families breed like rabbits and send us all their male heirs and spares. My predecessor had a Minimus, Minor and Parvus, Magnus, Major and Maximus. But with more than three, I prefer to label them Primus, Secundus, Tertius, etc. Matron said I should point out that 'Smith' only means 'You specimen of lowest life' when applied to a sprog. When used by the Headmaster to a Master, it means, 'Dear Mr Smith'. BTW masters should use the 'Mr Smith' form when addressing each other. Do not use 'Dear' unless being sarcastic. Note female masters are 'mistresses'. The boys (and other masters) can call you 'Stinky', but only when out of earshot. Do NOT refer to yourself as 'Stinky'. Trust this helps. Glad to see that you are talking to Hyland again.
