I submitted an article to the black hole of Mixed Moss more than a year ago and it hasn't been printed yet, nor have I heard whether or not it is going to be. It was entitled "The Chemistry of Pigeon Post"
It covers my investigations into the various chemical and chemical engineering aspects found in Pigeon Post.
My conclusions about the blast furnace were that the ore was principally copper pyrites which decomposes on heating to copper oxide which is a crumbly black powder. When the crucible broke it would have been lost in the ashes.
I would be willing to e-mail a file with my article if anyone is interested.
