Jonathan - the point of the comment was that I feel that if anyone consistently finds an AR character irritating, then maybe they are not quite seeing through to AR's humour behind each of his creations. Each of the children is a separate character - Dick, studious, Nancy, adventurous etc etc - and surely we can love and respect each one as if they were our own children? I have learnt to put up with and understand Roger's incessant demands for chocolate, which at one time I though were a real bore. I found the reference to Susan as an 'eight-year old granny' slightly offensive, if you must know, not just to Susan (my favourite character), but also to elderly people, but this slur seems to have passed you by, Jonathan. Too busy doing the 'Sir Galahad' act?
