There was a documentary about the Mary Celeste on British TV last night. One fact I didn't know previously (or had read so long ago I'd forgotten it) was that the ship's name had been changed in the hope of ending its history of bad luck. Its previous name was Amazon.
Not really relevant to our stories - it was after all the Swallow that hit the Pike Rock, and I imagine AR named the Amazon of the books after the Amazons who crewed it, but it seemed worth mentioning.
