There is one case where the absence of milk is noted: at the conclusion of the war in SA, Susan's preparing tea for all hands and remarks that there's no milk for the tea and it's too early to get it. Nomeone (Nancy?) says something to the effect of "have it without and call it hot grog", and no hot grog was ever enjoyed more by explorers or pirates.
