All roads named by the group I was responsible for were based on Aboriginal words for animal names. There is another very good safety reason for doing this as well, which may have saved some-one's life. Np prizes for the person who guesses the safety reason.

Not to claim a non-existent prize but......

When the city of Toronto was amalgamated from the four predecessor cities and one borough, there were a number of street names in the new larger city which were duplicated because they originally occurred in Etobicoke or North York as well as Toronto or Scarborough or East York. So there could be several Queen Streets for example. The problem, as John well knows, is that the emergency services don't necessarily know which 359 Queen St. to send the fire, police or ambulance to. So they have been gradually renaming the streets but its a lengthy process as no one wants to be the one to change their address with all the ensuing confusion and expense.

My wife works in a hospital on Church St. There is another Church St. in downtown Toronto where the gay population of Toronto hang out. A new employee, from out of town, decided that he wanted to move to the city and being gay saw this hospital located on Church St. and thought that it would be a convenient place to work as it would easy to go out play after work. Unfortunately for him, the hospital is located quite a few miles from the downtown core in a suburban area.
