I think we can easily hark back to a time when "things" were theoretically better.
Even in AR's novels one gets a sense that "things" were better before Rattletrap was invented and the Hullabaloo's motor cruiser did not exist and everyone had horse power or sailed.

However the S's were unlikely to go to the Lakes if trains did not exist or in the days before even a week's holiday became common.

In the present day, one can do one's best by trying to educate one's own children/grandchildren and their friends. But as Pam suggests we may need to re-educate many parents first.

However each generation decries the standards of the succeeding generations. We should remember that the ancient Greeks were afraid that their children were so unruly that they would bring about the end of the earth.

To my mind, the only real problem that we face is the uncontrolled growth of the world’s population. Rob’s solution of war or natural disaster to reset the counter is probably the eventual outcome, in the absence of any dicta of two children per two adults is the absolute maximum. It the only worthwhile item that we can pass on to our descendants.
