I've never been to Frinton, or heard of its level crossing before now, though I was aware of the town's reputation for excessive respectability, and of the saga of the fish and chip shop.

It seems to me that if the town's elderly residents indeed take no notice of flashing lights, then the removal of the gates will be an excellent thing - a handy way of taking irresponsible drivers out of circulation.
