Jock, the pole story was widely discussed when it broke a few weeks ago. I was told by someone who appeared to know that the real problem was lack of space on the site for a pole and a staircase. We agreed that any fireman was more likely to be injured running downstairs than sliding down a pole.
But the Commission Chairman is making a good point. Stupid H&S decisions have given the whole movement such a bad name that any decision that appears stupid, however sensible in fact, gets held up to ridicule.
And have you noticed that the article in the Daily Telegraph is by Amy Iggulden? Is it coincidence that it appears only a few weeks after publication of The Dangerous Book for Boys by Conn and Hal Iggulden? (Highly recommended - full of AR-like activities.)
