Jock - can you amplify this? I am not sure what you mean. As it happens, G.O. was, of course, middle or possibly upper middle class. Are you saying that he is more convincing as a character than the D&Gs? I can't see that myself - the D&Gs seem to me to be well-drawn and their general behaviour and speech sound right (although I am no expert on Norfolk dialect). G.O. on the other hand, is a bit vague and shadowy, but of course he's meant to be.
