With reference to lead pipes,I well remember them bursting after a freeze.
The plumber used to bang the split or hole closed them used a liberal amount of lead to solder it closed.
Using a large blowtorch which he had to pump to get a strong flame.
The torch contained I believe kerosene.
Happy dangerous days.
