Ping! . . . .OK, white flag! Two quick points: yes, of course digging into the characters’ imaginary past is fun, but my, and I suspect David’s, objection was also tongue in cheek. When I see people getting hopelessly tangled in pure speculation, I cannot resist a leg-pull. Nor can one or two others, as witness the suggestion, a few months ago, that the colour of Mr Dixon’s socks should be on our agenda. But no, please, do carry on ! I merely cannot promise that there won’t be an occasional bit of ‘sledging’ . . . ;-)
One other, more serious (well slightly more serious) point. Peter Ceresole says On a board like this, nobody is forced to join in- it's easy to skip past it. Well, that certainly used to be the case some years ago, in fact at one time it was a TarBoard mantra, but I personally feel that it isn’t so easy now to ‘skip past’ anything. Someone recently said that there was a TarBoard ‘community’, and I think he/she was right. Maybe there are less persons regularly taking part, and fewer different threads, but I now find it almost impossible to ignore anything that is going on on TarBoard (and I don’t wish to ignore anything anyway). Perhaps, in the TarBoard Arms, we have all got to know each other a bit. Can’t be bad?
