Using Traveline ( Public Transport Planner ) looks like one has to hop on and off 3 buses
Coniston Tourist Information Center has an email contact address.
Googling for - taxis lake district inurl:uk - provides some Taxi firms - guess quite expensive as it's a very time consuming 25-ish miles.
As for what the buses are like .....
