The mole wrench was originally a "Mole Brand" wrench, just as plumbers use a pipe wrench which was originally a "Footprint Brand", and has since become Known a simply 'footprints'. "Stillson" is another tool brand which has become the generic name for a type of pipe wrench. These things you can learn by being either as old as the hills or by being a sucker for old secondhand tool sales. I admit to being both.
