I quite agree with the author's statement about weighing being more consistent - however inconvenient (keeping a uniform set of pans/containers to hold the ingredients or re-taring for each new container), especially compared to some of the earlier cookbooks. One of our family's inherited, and used, recipes calls for a lump of butter the size of a walnut (English? Black? with or without outer husk?). I suspect though, it's a minority viewpoint in the English-speaking world.
