While equally uninformed about Mike's ultimate purpose in producing the maps, I do see at least one benefit in superimposing current features on the historic baseline. It's of great assistance to those of us who may wish to visit the locales of much-loved books in the same way that Christina Hardyment's or Roger Wardale's books have helped many of us visit, or at least seek out, the Lake locales. That the basic Broads geography of the time hasn't been altered at the author's convenience should in no way be taken to mean that it will be easy for strangers to locate specific places or sites, especially where there have been subsequent real geographic alterations.
