I would agree Peter H, but I still have found no trace of any indoor ice rink near the University.
AFAIK the following were the major London ice rinks with opening dates
1917-27 No ice rinks in London
1927 Westminster
1928 Richmond
1930 Queens Bayswater
1931 Streatham
1934 Wembley
1935 Earls Court
1936 Harringay.
All miles from UCL.
However the history is difficult to track and I may have missed some. I would be grateful to learn of any omissions.
Of these rinks, only Queens and Streatham remain open. Mr Tesco seems to think that selling more food etc will be a better option in Streatham than skating.
I have skated on both these rinks plus the late lamented Richmond. However there are temporary rinks opened in London during the winter.
Other university/ice rink candidates in the 1930's are
Durham
Nottingham
Birmingham
Oxford
Liverpool
But I do not know whether the rinks wereclose to the university and whether they had archeology departments.
