I had an idea that ladies in the UK being presented to a visiting Head of State, whether Monarch or President, on a state visit were expected to curtsey - if so, then it is quite right that Americans should do so as well.
I believe that more colonials fought for King George than George Washington in the events leading up to 1776 - and many of them had to flee to the Bahamas after the rebels won.
