I have weighed some of my older books, though I haven't got a pre-war Cape SD to compare with the Lippincott.
SA, 1938 edition, 375pp weighs 654g.
BS, 1940 edition, 400pp weighs 653g. By this time, the war had broken out, but the paper was still of good quality.
SD, 1941 edition, 453pp weighs 673g. Paper now of very inferior quality. SD is the longest book, so a pre-war copy would probably weigh about 750g - comparable with the US version.
