To add to the confusion, the book being alluded to is itself (in part) a parody of a Victorian story of three boys (one named Jack and one Ralph) wrecked on a Coral Island (and referred to in The Answer). Haven't read that one since the old queen died, or thereabouts.... Incidentally, children's literature or not, my 16-year-old is reading it for her English class at school and thinks it's wonderful. Mind you, this seems to be largely because of the crude language used in places (gets that taste from her mother, of course).
