ISTR reading (? in The Best of Childhood - which is not to hand) that AR wanted to revise the SA date to 1930. Jonathan Cape, the publisher, refused to make the change.
Perhaps Capes had to deal with correspondence on the topic and did not want to generate more.
I think this would have been a good change to make rather than the clumsy postscript.
We can always amend our dates in pencil in the books, as I have done with other typos that were included.
