Owen, I had a quick scan through "The Best of Childhood" and I came across two sets of dating schemes from none other than AR himself.

On page 277 he is quoted as:
"S and A 1930
Winter S and A in wherry frozen in Broads writing PD.
S 1931 ..."

And again on page 303 he is quoted as
"Swallows and Amazons Summer 1930
Roger 7, Titty 9, Susan 11, Peggy 11, John 12, Nancy 12.
Swallowdale 1931 ..."

So with AR himself as the authority it would appear undeniable that the new postscript is wrong and that Kanchenjunga was indeed climbed in 1931.

Funny thing though, the sentence preceding the second quote says:
"Ransome wrote the following, and he instructed Cape to change the date in Swallowdale to 1930, but they did not do so!". Now that appears quite inconsistent with what does follow. What on earth is going on? Could it be that there is a typo in that sentence and it should read "... to change the date in Swallows and Amazons to 1930, but ..."?

(Typos do occur. Just look at the discontinuity from the bottom of page 300 to the top of page 301 in the same book - I'd like to get the bit of missing text that should be in there.)
