I'd be very interested to learn from anyone who has visited the
Armitt Centre how it fulfils its claim that its "Computer Interactives"
allow one to hold a conversation with a member of the Collingwood
family. From the example given by Margaret, and the rather fuzzy screen
shot on the Armitt Centre web site, it looks as if the interaction is
limited to having the computer supply an answer to one of a fixed set
of questions. To be able to engage in an 'open' conversation wth RGC
on his Philosopy of History or on the Cruise of the Fleur de Lys
would be marvelous but extraordinarily difficult except through the
trickery of programs such as Eliza (computer playing
the part of a non-judgmental psychiatist) or Racter (computer
directing all conversations towards the telling of absurd stories about
German wines and lettuce). Nevertheless it's an intriguing possibility.

PS About the Fleur de Lys, see RGC's The First Mate's Log
(1939): I'm hoping an extract will soon appear on the Literary Pages.
