I tend always to be disappointed by seeing a film after a book...
two notable exceptions... are 'Riddle of the Sands'... and...
'Railway Children'

Most films starring Jenny Agutter are worth seeing, she and her agent
seem to have chosen her roles very carefully.

The film medium forces the director to abridge and inevitably some
favourite bits always seem to be missing. The key question is surely
not whether the film is 100% faithful to the book, but whether it is
faithful to the spirit of the book.

The Joseph Losey/Harold Pinter film adaptation of L.P. Hartley's
The Go Between is a good example of a sensitive adaptation. The
AR link?

Well the action takes place in Norfolk at a time when the D & G's
fathers would have been young boys! It would be nice to think that
given a favourable wind, one day the whole AR canon might be
transferred to celluloid as per Harry Potter. Sudden thought, the
young Emma Watson would have made an admirable Nancy (she was
11 when Philosopher's Stone was released in 2001), but since then
she has grown up rather too much to play the role today.
