It seems that there really should be more done with that technology, as most ships are powered by fossel fuels of one kind or another, they also contribute to Global Warming.
On the ocean, as in Kansas, the wind is a free and continual (if varying in intensity) source of energy. It would seem that all our characters would have been in favor of alternative methods of utilizing wind power - especially Roger, in that it would be an alternative engine!
