What ever happened to those experimental sailing ships with tall cylindrical revolving masts instead of traditional sails?

A good question, I have never seen anything more about them. A related concept was a form of wind turbine with the rotors revolving horizontally rather than vertically, and designed with a parabolic vertical edge, which seemed to resolve some of the issues of bird strike (and landscape visual issues). Never heard anything more about those either.
