Now sit up straight chaps and listen carefully to Captain Jock. A number of you weren't paying attention properly during my last lesson.

The link given by Peter H:

http://archive.arthur-ransome.org/

Appears to be the official archive of the old site taken by the TARS webmaster(mistress?) and is now hidden behind a log on door. Note TarBoard logon names and passwords do not work and give rise to the following error message.

One problem with this archive was that second order hyperlinks (the next ones down from the index page) did not work and needed 'www' replacing by 'archive' as I explained earlier.

The other archive site http://web.archive.org/web/20060427003835/http://www.arthur-ransome.org/ar/

Is 'snapshot' of the TARS pages taken by the WayBackMachine on 25 June 2006. All second order and most third order hyperlinks lead to pages that have also been archived. This makes it possible to see the main TarBoard page as it was on 25 June 2006, but unfortunately if you click on "Most Recent Messages" you get the current most recent messages and if you click on any individual title you get the warning "missing or non-existent message".

I'm aware that this still doesn't answer Dave Thewlis's question regarding the official TARS archive: why on earth would that site suddenly have restricted access?
Perhaps, Peter H could enlighten us?
