The Wiki page on ‘Lord of the Flies’ (pub. 1954) points out that William Golding uses the N-word himself in the book, as it was acceptable in 1954, although he accuses R M Ballantyne (The Coral Island) of being racist! ‘Lord of the Flies’ challenged the 19th century views of Ballantyne in ‘The Coral Island’.
