If you like mountain features I suggest having a look at some of the places I mention in 'other things A.R. didn't mention. Also the Grizedale Forest and its Sculptures. These are wonderfull especially the wild boars and take some finding. The forest lies in the hinterland between Coniston Water and Windemere, just north of Ransome's grave.
I should think you would be taking a bit of a chance cycle touring in Jan or Feb.. The days are short, the weather often poor and the hills steep. Still you could be lucky. the mountain biking is good but 'sporting'.
Incidentally, I see that Harveys have just published a1:25,000 map of the S. Lakes that covers both Windemere and Coniston Water and the land to the west. Could have been designed for TARS on a pilgrimage.
